How to Measure the Effectiveness of Marketing Campaigns
How to Measure the Effectiveness of Marketing Campaigns It goes without saying that marketing is one of the biggest and most important expenditures that any company will make. After all, if you are not doing the right things to add to your customer base, then your company is not going to grow in both size and revenue. That is why effective marketing campaigns are critical to the continued success of any business. The problem is that most companies do not have an unlimited marketing budget. This results in the need for each business to examine the effectiveness of each marketing campaign to see if that type of campaign was successful or should be avoided in the future. Letâs explore this subject a little further and see how your company can track the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns. © Shutterstock.com | GraskoIn this article, we explore 1) the types of marketing campaigns, 2) how to measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, 3) tools for measuring the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, and 4) conclusion.TYPES OF MARKETING CAMPAIGNSFor most businesses, especially the larger ones, marketing is a fluid and constantly changing process that never stops. Many companies run several different types of marketing campaigns at once. There are two main schools of thought when it comes to the marketing strategy that you most likely will use; these have to do with inbound and outbound marketing theories.Outbound MarketingThis is a type of marketing strategy where your business tries to attract attention to their product or service by campaigns that go âoutâ into the marketplace in order to generate sales. Many consider this style of marketing to be old school since the dramatic rise in popularity of the internet and the World Wide Web. Here are some typical out bound marketing strategies:Direct mail;Outbound calling;TV, Print, Radio advertising;Public relations campaigns.Inbound marketingLong gone are the days of door to door salesman, and other types of outbound marketing are fading quickly too. Inbound marketing has taken over and is now proving to be much more effective than older style outbound marketing campaigns. Inbound marketing strategy is designed to lure customers to your business by such means as attracting people to your website or by the effective placement of ads on popular social media sites. This type of approach is much more subtle than outbound marketing in practice. Here are some typical inbound marketing strategies:Email marketing campaigns;Website based contact (includes both web content and SEO);On-site/In-person interactions;Social media placement.HOW TO MEASURE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MARKETING CAMPAIGNSThere are several steps that are involved when it comes to tracking the results of any marketing campaign. Here is a n example of the way most companies do it these days.Step #1 â" Plan the campaign and how you want to track itThis step is pretty self-explanatory. As with anything that you do that is related to your business or even to your life for that matter, it all needs to start with a well thought out and effective plan. Once the marketing campaign is planned, then next you must decide which methods you want to use to track its effectiveness.Step #2 â" Define the channels you want trackTo measure the success of your ad campaign, itâs easiest to do this when you divide your marketing derived traffic into subgroups that are more typically referred to as channels. Here are some of the most common types of channels and what they entail.Direct â" These are potential customers that find your business in a direct manner without being directed there by other parties. An example of this is a person that saw your web address on a print add and typed it into their web browser to get information ab out your product or service.Referral â" These are potential customers that find their way to your site via a third party that did not use a social media site or a search engine to get to you. Maybe your company will give the third party something like a referral bonus for this or you have a mutual agreement to have links to each otherâs sites on your individual websites.Organic â" This is people that find your company through search engine such as Google. They generally were looking for a type of product or service your company offers, but they were not specifically looking for your company. Many times there will be a UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) parameter that is set up to help them find you.E-mail â" These potential customers are people that came to you through such things as an e-mail campaign that you put on. Many get to you by using a âutm_mediumâ with the words email or e-mail in it.Paid â" These are potential customers that came to you as a result of an ad campaign that you paid for such as a print ad in a newspaper or an ad on a web content site.Social â" These are people that found you while surfing through social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. There are hundreds of websites which fall into this category.None â" This is a catch-all category (it does not necessarily have to be called ânoneâ) that all the people who find you through other channels than those mentioned above are placed.Step #3 â" Define the Marketing Metrics You Want to MeasureLike any responsible company does, you will want to measure the return on investment you are getting from your marketing campaigns, and one of the best ways to do this is through marketing metrics. Marketing metrics are simply a collection of numerical data that allows you to get some perspective on a marketing campaign to see if it met the goals your company set for it.There are several different ways you can generate data with which to form a specific metric. Here are a few ways in which this can be done:Web content â" This is the study of how effective what you place on your website is at both informing the people who visit the site and getting them to take some action as a result; this shows that the quality of the content actually was good enough that those people followed along all the way to the actionable task you set.Lead conversion â" This is gathering data on people from the first time they come into contact with your marketing strategy and then follows them all the way through the different stages of the lead generation process. This includes the initial contact, then on to being a sales prospect and all the way to becoming an actual customer. This metric will track where you lost potential customers in the lead process and help you develop theories as to why.Individual visitors â" This is data that tracks when an individual user first visits your website during a specific period of time and how many times that same person came back to visit it again. T his metric lets you see how effective each phase of a specific marketing plan was.Tracking new visitors versus returning oneâs â" This metric helps you to establish how effective new site content drives traffic to your website. This is one method that is not easy to get accurate. It is sometimes best done by actually asking the people who visit your website why they came there the first time or what it was that peaked their interest to make them come again.Click through rate (CTR) â" This most likely will include a web page on your site that has an action that needs to be performed in order for the viewer to proceed along further in an information gathering or sales process. It will measure such things as how many people visited the webpage and went no further or how many people visited the web page and initiated the actionable step.Bounce rate â" This is the metric that causes many marketers or web content developers to lose their job or get demoted. It is compiled data on how many viewers go to one of your web pages and then leave without visiting anything else or taking any actionable steps.Page views â" This metric measures a number of pages each visitor to your site looks at. You can also do such things with it as learn how much time a visitor spent on a webpage to get a feel for which ones were appealing to them. The more times a page was viewed, and the longer people viewed it could help you measure a marketing campaigns success even if no action was performed by the user.Search engine referrals â" Many search providers such as Google have special ways to track what keywords people used that landed them on your site and which search engines directed those same people to you (Google has a tool called âGoogle Analyticsâ to do this).Social media effectiveness â" You can use such things as âlikesâ on Facebook and âmentionsâ on Twitter to measure the effectiveness of your advertising there. There are also other tools built into social med ia sites for tracking purposes too.Word-of-mouth â" Maybe the age of the door to door salesman has come to an end but never overlook direct customer feedback when establishing the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns. Some ways in which consumers were led to becoming customers of your product or service will never be known unless you ask them. You can do this by using such things as a follow-up surveys or asking a question on the purchasing form.Form conversion rate â" A lot of marketers have their web designers put actual forms onto web pages that have some call to action on them. These could seek more information or get them a discount coupon. These types of things are very easy to track and accumulate data for metrics.E-mail Openings â" This metric simply measures how many e-mails were opened based on how many you sent in a particular marketing campaign.Step #4 â" Measuring Your CampaignsOnce you have done the planning for how you will track and measure your marketing ca mpaign as well as set the parameters for it, and then it is time for the actual tracking to take place once your campaign has gone into effect.Measuring your âsearchâ marketing performance Google Analytics is very necessary to measure traffic and other data that has to do with the traffic pertaining to your website, but it alone is not enough anymore. Here are some other things that pertain to search functions that are very relevant to marketing strategy.SEO Position â" For years many businesses have been obsessed with site ranking but that is starting to change as search engines like Google are constantly changing the way searches are done when using them. But make no mistake about it; SEO ranking is still very important.Pay-per-click ads â" This is best done by what is known as âDynamic Number Insertionâ. It is a code that is imbedded into a webpage that will help you to track conversions from all of your tracking resources.Measuring the Effectiveness of Your Social Med ia Marketing All of the major social media sites have built-in analytics that helps you track the effectiveness of your posts and other messages that you put on them.Measuring Print Ads and Other Media This is done by making a dedicated webpage on your site that can only be linked out of so you know what the source for those links are. Setting up tracking URLâs is also a good way of doing this type of thing.TOOLS FOR MEASURING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MARKETING CAMPAIGNSHere are some examples of the most popular tools that can help you track the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns.Google AnalyticsThis is by far one of the most used analytical tools in the marketing area. It helps make data available to all interested parties in your organization who wish to interpret the data. There is a free version that is the one most commonly used, but bigger firms can purchase a dedicated premium version with support starting at around $150,000.Here are its Key Features:It operates on a da ta-driven acknowledgment model; It contains advanced segments; It has many comparison tools; It has a real-time reporting feature; It has the ability to perform both cross- platform and cross-device measurement.Kissmetrics â" Funnel ReportingThis is all about the effectiveness of bringing more types of high converting web traffic to your companyâs website. The service is priced on a tier-based structure that ranges from $30 to over $1,000 a month depending on how man hits your website receives. Here are its Key Features:It uses individual channels to track conversions; It lets you see how each channel is performing; It shows where the bulk traffic is originating from;It shows the sources from where customers came from.MarketoThis is a popular marketing ROI tool because it takes sophisticated key data and displays it in a simplistic form so it can be easily interpreted. The service costs between $800 and $4,000 per month depending on which services you choose. Here are its Key Features:It h elps you determine which marketing programs impact revenue the most and how many contacts with the source were needed to generate the revenue; It helps you focus your marketing budget where its working; It helps to simplify key marketing metrics; It can be set up to deliver daily, weekly or monthly reports.RapidMinerThis service has been touted as being the easiest to use modern day analytics platform. Architecture New Technology in Communication Theses
It appears that we, as a global society, are in the midst of a serious dilemma. While it would be foolish to under-utilize the power of our most recent communicational technologies, it has become apparent that there are legitimate and dangerous side effects associated with our current involvement with, and application of, cyber technologies. In this project, I will be studying the relationship between recent advances in communicational technologies and architecture, in order to analyze the current benefits and setbacks of both cyberspace, which has been created by various technological media, and the actual physical spaces which we live in, so that interpersonal communication in our physical world may be improved through the careful integration of the powerful and endless capabilities of cyberspace Gustavo Fischman(2005, 191). Architecture and Communication History In recent history; however, significant advances in technology have seemingly shrunk the world that once seemed so vast.à The internet now allows us to access the most remote parts of the world instantly, with the simple click of a mouse button.à The speed and convenience associated with the internet, and all other sorts of technological innovations, has forever changed the way we find information and communicate. Hand-held devices now allow individuals in different countries to see, speak, and type to one another in real-time Chayko., M. (2008). There was a time when newspapers were the only source of information regarding the social happenings but now there are multiple channels for the same, Television, Internet, Handhelds they all are good enough to give you an update within seconds however there are other important channels that still exist and interest the masses, that is face-to-face interactions, group discussions etc. these have their own capability and importance and hence the architecture of communication has a history of physical space and the development of technology has added the advantages of the cyber space, lets discuss the contrast between these two to understand the Architecture of communication in todayââ¬â¢s scenario(Paul C. Adams , 2005). Cyber Space and Physical Space There is something that has killed the boundaries, has brought all geographies together has changed the definition of distance and that is ââ¬Å"Technology; the cyberspace now created allows us to remotely communicate within a fraction of second regardless of the geography and talking in the modern terms its fast, its cool and its effective however it can never justify itself in the place of Physical space. Letââ¬â¢s study the diagram below. There are several cyber communication channels are listed under the category (one2one), (one2many) and (many2many) now if we observe closely we will be able to understand that regardless of the group size there is a lack of physical connect and hence the type of bonding in either of these channels will be feeble, on the other hand a simple (one2one) physical connect will give great value to the particular relation considering it will have eye contact and exchange of facial emotions. While the benefits of the internet age seem endless, it is important to note that there are also numerous setbacks that have resulted from the rapid incorporation of cyber technologies into our everyday lives. Doctors, parents, neurologists, and teachers, just to name a few groups, have recently voiced their concerns regarding the damaging effects of our reliance, fascination, and border-line obsession with the cyber world that is now seemingly incorporated into all aspects of life. Now that we understand the importance of both Cyber space and physical space lets study the relation between the twoà (Robert Zheng, Jason J. Burrow-Sanchez,à Clifford J. Drew Adolescent, 2010). The relation between CS and PS Due to variations in the means and methods that regions utilize in order to communicate with one another, the world currently hosts a wide array of unique languages, dialects, and complex systems of written symbols.à With the development and evolution of specific languages has come the emergence of many cultures and regional ways of life. Archbishop from Englandââ¬â¢s Roman Catholic Church comment saying Among young people often a key factor in them committing suicide is the trauma of transient relationships. They throw themselves into a friendship or network of friendships, then it collapses and theyre desolate. This can be because of lack of physical space Lisa Katayama (2009). As discussed above, advantages of the cyber space cannot be denied but the primary reason for which it must be used is to facilitate the physical space and not to take its place. Cyber Space can eradicate the gaps between physical communication and space by ensuring quick and effective touch however it can never be used in place of physical space. Therefore the relation is simple: cyberspace is a great support to physical space and is useful in taking it to the next level but cannot be the sole mode of communication James W. Carey (2008). The Importance of the Physical communication Personal space: West ââ¬â arms length Arab and Latin cultures ââ¬â much closer together Touching Latin America ââ¬â hugs Asians ââ¬â only handshake on initial meeting Eye Contact Western countries ââ¬â critical; evaluate sincerity, trust Asia, India, Japan ââ¬â depends on who youââ¬â¢re talking to; disrespectful for jr. level employee to look directly at sr. level employee Hand Gestures Thumbs up: positive in Western Cultures, inappropriate/obscene in other cultures Ask and observe locals for which postures, voice levels, crossing legs, etc are appropriate Importance and Reasons: 1.) The computer can perform many operations with tremendous speed and accuracy, but the replication of human thought is not one of these operations. Evidence ââ¬â Mind Over Machine Dreyfus 2.) The ââ¬Å"neuroplasticâ⬠nature of our brains allows for alterations in thought processing when introduced to different stimuli, and the recent reliance on cyber media has resulted in decreased comprehension and shortened attention spans amongst the majority of frequent users Evidence ââ¬â Results of Dr. Nicholas Carrââ¬â¢s case study, in The Shallows 3.) Reliance on cyber technologies have enhanced our ability to process information faster, and have contributed to increases in IQ; however, it has also had a damaging effect on issues regarding interpersonal emotional responses. Evidence ââ¬â Lady Greenfield 4.) Humans have been shown to benefit tremendously, concerning education and overall mental health, when their tactile senses are stimulated. Evidence ââ¬â Dr. Fritz Talbotââ¬â¢s 1940 study 5.) As technological media become faster, more convenient, and less personal, individuals have become increasingly duplicitous/careless. Evidence ââ¬â Paper submission vs. Online submission Case Survey about how people think of new Technology of Communication Communication is a process which involves groups or individuals conveying information between one another.à The development of effective methods in efficiently transferring thoughts, from one person to the next, is one of the most basic elements that contributes to the creation and growth of interactive societies.à Without adequate means of communicating, groups of people would struggle endlessly to productively work together and strengthen as a society at large. The Role of the Architect The role of the Architect is to resolve this issue from the society where there is a lack of physical connect which is the main reason for cultural nourishment and the presence of interpersonal connect. There is a need to develop that framework which will create a systematic balance between both Cyber and Physical space so that the gap of lack of physical communication gets fixed. Conclusion It is quite evident that there is a direct correlation between the rapid integration of the cyberworld, and the steady à decline of real-world interpersonal bonds. Hugs, handshakes, à and face-to-face conversations have been replaced by email and instant messaging. While the short-term gains are immensely convenient, the long-term effects are much more unpredictable. Much of the damaging results of our reliance on cyberspace can be contributed to the fact that we have not à yet found a method of incorporating the attributes and capabilities of the cyber world into our physical world. The realities of cyberspace, in a sense, have not yet been materialized. For this exact reason, it may be in our best interest to begin building a bridge between the cyber world, created by various communicational media, and the real world in which we live, by allowing internet users to physically experience the capabilities of cyberspace within the confines of our physical surroundings. Theme Of To My Dear And Loving Husband By Anne Bradstreet
Poetry Analysis Poetry is a form of literature that can be both artistic and meaningful, with many similarities and differences between the poetry pieces created by the millions of famous poets throughout history. The poems ââ¬Å"To My Dear and Loving Husbandâ⬠by Anne Bradstreet and ââ¬Å"Shall I compare thee to a summerââ¬â¢s dayâ⬠__ _______ ___________ are two examples of poetry masterpieces that not only have many things in common, but that also have things that make them unique and singular pieces of literature. When writing, poets like Shakespeare and Bradstreet try to convey a theme or meaning that they want their readers to comprehend and understand. Often, poems from different writers can have a common theme shared between them. In the case ofâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦A third similarity between the two poems is the use of a first-person narrator. In poem 1, the writer uses the word ââ¬Å"Iâ⬠when directly speaking about the narratorââ¬â¢s feelings. In poem 2, the writer also uses the word ââ¬Å"Iâ⬠, but instead uses it in an indirect, roundabout way that has the same intended meaning as its use in poem 1. There is, however, a definitive difference between narrator one and narrator 2. This definitive difference, as alluded to earlier, is the gender of the 2 narrators. The narrator of poem 1, for example, is a female writing to her husband. However, in todayââ¬â¢s realistic society it could just as very well be a guy writing to his husband if some of the minor word details were changed. In poem 2, the narrator is semi-obviously a man talking about a girl. As stated before, this could also be taken into the c ontext of a girl talking about another girl in todayââ¬â¢s realistic society. There is yet another way in which the poems are different. The writing style used by the two writers is entirely different. For example, Shakespeare normally writes all of his poems and/or sonnets in iambic pentameter. This means that the poem ends in a rhyming couplet, while the other preceding lines of the poem follow another rhyme pattern, which in this case is what is known as the ââ¬Å"a-bâ⬠rhyme scheme. In the case of ââ¬Å"Shall I compare thee to a summerââ¬â¢s dayâ⬠, the poet uses ââ¬Å"So long as men can breatheShow MoreRelatedEssay about Love in Anne Bradstreets To my Dear and Loving Husband1407 Words à |à 6 Pagesaffection; also, it mentions ââ¬Å"Love is greatestâ⬠.
