The War Of The Vietnam War - 1382 Words

The movie Platoon was based upon the 25th infantry division stationed in Vietnam during 1967. The company was to patrol near the Cambodian border to prevent the North Vietnamese Army from controlling the southern half of the country. I believe that the movie Platoon portrayed the many conflicts that occurred throughout the Vietnam War. Not only was the war a big conflict for the United States, but also there were different small beliefs about why we were fighting, how to fight in a foreign unknown land, and many others. This movie displayed a truly realistic version of how the war actually was and how it was viewed among the veterans. It is literally a hell on earth. Many others think like him and introduce him to marijuana. They feel that getting a high on marijuana is the best way to be optimistic and escape the reality of the war they are fighting in for reasons they do not quite understand. Counting down the days until being discharged tends to be a very common and popular thing amongst the soldiers. Being new to the drama of the war, Chris finds out that having over three hundred more days left to go in his year of duty is heart breaking. It seemed that the United States army was at a great disadvantage when it came to fighting in the country of Vietnam. The region is very mountainous, hot, and included thick jungle throughout. North Vietnamese troops were used to using guerrilla warfare, however the United States had never seen anything like it. In the night, Chris and his company slept in the middle of the jungle with Chris on watch duty for his three hour shift. After his time was up, he alerted his fellow soldier Junior that it was his turn for watch. Later, Chris wakes up to see everyone else asleep and movement from a ways out in the jungle.
